MACON, GA - The Knights baseball team lost their first game of the NAIA Baseball Opening Round - Macon Bracket 8-4 to Rio Grande but after knocking out Huntington 11-2 and British Columbia 8-0, the Knights will face the Red Storm of Rio Grande at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 15 in another elimination game. The Knights will face their 3rd straight elimination game in the double-elimination Macon Bracket as they look to make their way back through the losers bracket to the championship.
The early game against Huntington saw the offense put up 2 runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 8th with 3 in the 9th for an 11-2 win as starter Jason Gifford is now 7-0 on the season throwing 9 innings and allowing 1 earned run, 5 hits, and 2 walks with 11 strike outs in his longest outing of the year. Robbie Hanlon, Jacob durant, Bucky McGlamrey, and Dayton Beasley each had a pair of hits as the Knights piled up 12 hits in the game. Hanlon, MJ Rookard and Durant each had a pair of RBI while Zach Cornell, Rookard, Durant, and McGlamrey each scored a pair of runs.
The 3rd game of the day saw the Knights face the Thunderbirds of British Columbia for the second straight year and the Knights got 9 innings from starter Jackson Braden allowing just 1 hit, 4 walks, and striking out 7. The one hit came in the 7th but Braden earned the victory going to 5-3 on the season. He got run support from McGlamrey and Cornell with 2 hits each including a homerun in the 9th from McGlamrey while he and Nash each ahd a pair of RBI in the game.
The Knights face Rio Grande for the 2nd time in 3 days but this time, the winner is in the Championship Game and the loser will go home. The Knights and Red Storm will meet at 11am with the winner to play the Southeastern Fire in a matchup scheduled for 3:30. The winner will have to defeat the Fire twice with the if necessary game scheduled for noon on Thursday the 16th.
