Baseball Avoids Elimination with 9-4 Win Over William Carey to Set Up Rematch with Mobile

MONTGOMERY, AL - The 10th ranked baseball team kept their SSAC tournament alive with a 9-4 win over the William Carey Crusaders after losing 10-8 in 10 innings to the Mobile Rams on Thursday to drop to the elimination bracket.  The win was the 39th of the season for the Knights who are currently ranked #10 in the country and were awarded an NAIA Baseball Opening Round Bid to be hosted at Luther Williams Field in Macon, GA starting May 13 in conjunction with the Macon Bacon and Macon-Bibb Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Knights jumped ahead in the 2nd as MJ Rookard led off the inning with a solo home run then picked up 2 more in the 3rd for a 3-0 lead.  The Crusaders picked up a run in the 4th and 5th and the Knights added one in the bottom of the 5th to give starter Jackson Braden a 4-2 lead.  The Crusaders picked up a run in the 7th to cut the lead to 4-3 and Braden left with 6.2 innings pitched to give way to Devan Harriman who ended the Crusaders threat in the 7th.  The Knights scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to open up the game 9-3 and Harriman shut down the Crusaders for the final 2 innings except a solo homer in the top of the 9th for the save.  

The Knights will face the University of Mobile Rams and will have to beat the Rams twice to reach the SSAC Tournament Championship on Saturday.
