LIMA, OH - After 27 runs were scored in the 9 inning contest, the Knights came out on top with the game-winner in the bottom of the 9th off the bat of Jack Bell IV (JR/Leesburg, GA) to score Will Golden (SR/Waycross, GA) and give the Knights a 14-13 win over Midway University (Ky) in the first elimination game of the Lima Bracket. The win puts the Knights at 44-15 on the season and sets up a matchup at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16 with MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan).
The Knights got an early lead with an RBI groundout in the first by Alan Mocahbee (SR/Calhoun, GA) but the Eagles put up a pair of runs on 4 hits in the top of the 2nd to quickly take the lead. That did not hold for long as the team scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly by Haydn Nechanicky (JR/Suwanee, GA), fielder's choice by Jesus Monserrat (SR/Warner Robins, GA), a 2-run double by Andy Mocahbee (SR/Calhoun, GA), and RBI single by Alan. The Eagles hit two solo homers are part of a 3-run 4 hit performance in the top of the 3rd to cut the lead to 6-5 heading to the bottom of the 3rd. The Knights answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd on RBI singles by Bryce Todd (SR/LaGrange, GA) and Monserrat followed by a sac fly by Andy.
Chris Rich (SR/Sugar Hill, GA) shut down the Eagles in the top of 4 and the Knights added two more runs with a single by Monserrat that scored both and gave the team a lead of 11-5. Rich got the first out in the 5th quickly then gave up 5 runs before giving way to Devan Harriman (SO/Pensacola, FL) who got the final two outs to keep the lead 11-10 for Middle Georgia. Alan Mocahbee got 2 of the runs back with his 15th homer of the year in the bottom of the 5th for a 13-10 lead through 5. Neither team could put up any runs in the 6th or 7th with a combined 3 hits (all by MGA) over the two innings and 4 left on base. The Eagles finally got to Harriman in the 8th with 3 hits to plate 2 runs and cut the lead to 13-12. In the 9th, Crandall Poore (JR/Gray, GA ) came on for the save but gave up 3 hits and a run before stranding the go-ahead run on 3rd to take the game to the bottom of the 9th with a score of 13 each. Alan Mocahbee led off the 9th with a pop out ahead of Will Golden's single. Bell followed Golden with a double to deep right-center that allowed Golden to score the winning run all the way from first.
The Knights got the win in the elimination game after losing to Hope International (Calif) on Monday and will have to win out to be the champion of the double-elimination Lima Bracket and reach the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, ID.
